An Overview of Writing in College

In college you will encounter many types of writing. As you will find, different classes require different types of writing. For example:

  • An English course might require you to complete a literary analysis
  • Chemistry might entail a detailed lab report
  • Human Communications might ask that you perform an argumentative speech

Every type of writing, whether it be cause and effect, comparison and contrast, process analysis, or argumentative, requires different elements.

The resources in this section will help you understand the differences between various types of writing and the necessary elements of each.
