COURSE INFORMATION - LIBRARY 100 #20150
Welcome to Library 100 - Introduction to Library Research
Heather Daugherty, Librarian
This course consists of weekly readings, each with an online reading quiz and an assignment. In addition, there are several quizzes, a final project, and in-class assignments. See TalonNet and the Course Syllabus for more details.
This section of Library 100 will meet once a week unless otherwise instructed. Our class meeting time is Monday from 6:00 p.m. - 7:50 p.m. The first 50 minutes will consist of a lecture and an overview of your current assignment. The last hour will be a lab during which you will be able to work on current assignments and come to me with any questions you may have.
You do not have to buy a book for this class. The numbered lessons inTalonNet are your "book." You might want to print out the lessons to make it easier to refer to them while you're completing the corresponding reading quiz and assignment.
Most weeks there will be an online reading quiz. The reading quizzes are open book, so it helps to have the corresponding lesson open or printed.
In class we'll go over the material you read about. After class you can re-read the lesson and work on the assignment for that lesson. You'll find the weekly assignments in Assignments. The assignments are "open book" too. Use the lessons to help you complete the assignments.
I prefer that you submit all assignments as attachments in TalonNet. As I grade your assignments, I'll post your grades in the Gradebook.
Besides our weekly class time, I'm also available in the library on Wednesdays from 5-9pm to assist you as you work though the lessons and assignments. All Cerritos College librarians at the Reference Desk are happy to help as well.
Students in this class can check their grades, take the reading quizzes, read special announcements, and get copies of the lessons, assignments, and handouts on TalonNet.

Library 100 Course Description
This course is designed to introduce you to the wide variety of information resources available in print and online through the Cerritos College Library. The goal of Library 100 is to empower you, the learner, to locate, access, and retrieve relevant information; develop the necessary skills to critically evaluate that information; and to apply the information appropriately to the development of research projects. You will learn the range of available resources used for research; their potential and limitations; techniques for searching online library catalogs, and selected Internet-based resources; strategies for developing the research paper; and the Modern Language Association style for formatting bibliographies and lists of works cited.
All course materials will be available for you on TalonNet. Course materials include the readings, assignments, quizzes, and supplemental information. Your assignment grades will also be available on TalonNet.
Important information concerning the course will be posted as announcements at the TalonNet site and sent to all students as an email message. For this reason it is extremely important to have your current email account information listed with the College. If you don’t have an email account, visit the Library Computer Lab for information on creating an account. Information on updating your existing email account or adding your newly created account can be found at the MyCerritos site after you login, as well as in the course online orientation at the TalonNet site.
