The library also has a large collection of microfilm and microfiche. While the contents of some of these publications might be indexed (described) in our databases, the best way to search for coverage of topics or events is to use one of our print indexes, then check to see if we own the publication referenced by checking the Library Catalog.
The library's print indexes are shelved above the microfilm and microfiche cabinets.
Readers' Guide to Periodical Literature
This index covers a wide range of periodicals, or magazines, published as far back as 1901. This is just an index, so if you find an article that you like, you will need to check to see if we own the magazine and have issues during the dates you are researching. Use our Find Journals link to see if we own the magazine or journal you need.
New York Times Index
We have this index back to 1955 and we have the New York Times on microfilm back to 1955. You may want to search at NYtimes.com instead of using the print index, then use the citation information to get the article from the microfilm.
The easiest way to locate archives or oral histories on a particular topic or related to a specific population is to conduct a Google search like these:
"mexican american" AND "oral history" AND california
chicano AND "oral history"
