The Dance History Research Assignment is worth 35 points and includes the following:
1. Works Cited - 5 points
This specific assignment requires you to submit at least three works cited towards your term paper. They should be different sources such as books/articles/periodicals from the circulation or reference area of the Cerritos College library, videos, films or interviews with dance personalities related to your paper topic. MLA 8 style formatting should be followed. Don't be limited in your research! Just because you list it here for this assignment you may ultimately "go in a different direction" and not even use some of these early research materials in your final term paper submission!
2. Thesis Statement- 5 points
This particular assignment is asking for your term paper thesis statement. This should be a one to two paragraph statement that describes what your are going to be writing about and how you are going to ultimately "defend" your argument. For example your these may be that Michael Jackson is the greatest dancer of all time. And you are going to then prove it by showing his early emulation of James Brown when he was learning his craft as a member of the Jackson 5. Or perhaps you want to show argue that the term 'contemporary dance' relates more to the theatrical dance styles of ballet, jazz and modern dance rather than the social dance styles of street dance and Latin dance.
3. The Research Paper - 25 points
This assignment is the submission of your term paper based on your thesis statement. The paper's submission should include your thesis statement and works cited as well as the body of your paper. Although there is no specific designated length the fact that your are defending your initial thesis statement should take at least several well constructed paragraphs. The formatting should follow MLA 8 style.
